Fibroid Party Crashers

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that can develop in the uterus (womb) of women. They are made up of muscle tissue and can vary in size from very small to quite large.

The exact cause isn't fully understood, but hormones like estrogen and progesterone seem to play a role. Genetic factors and family history can also make some women more likely to get them.

These fibroids aren't exactly polite guests—they hog space, mess with your cycle, and  can make your periods feel like a waterfall,  turn your bathroom breaks into a marathon, give you a crampy reminder that they're there or cause pressure symptoms, low back pain and constipation.

In some cases, fibroids can make it harder to get pregnant or carry a pregnancy to full term, depending on their size and location. However, many women with fibroids still have successful pregnancies.

Doctors can often feel fibroids during a pelvic exam. Imaging tests like ultrasound, MRI, or CT scans can confirm their presence and show their size, number and location.

But fear not, if these fibroid party crashers start causing too much drama, there are ways to kick them out and show them who is the boss!

Treatment depends on factors like the size of the fibroids, severity of symptoms, and whether a woman wants to have children in the future. Options include medications to manage symptoms, procedures to shrink or remove fibroids, or in more severe cases, surgery to remove them or even the uterus. We at Inspire are well trained to help you make a treatment choice.

Even if fibroids aren't causing symptoms, regular check-ups are important. This helps doctors monitor any changes and decide if treatment is necessary.
